Havelock � Matthews Point Marina is the first marina or boatyard in the Beaufort area to be given the Clean Marina designation.

The marina voluntarily completed the Clean Marina checklist developed by NC Marine Trades Services and the NC Division of Coastal Management. The checklist indicated that Matthews Point Marina is actively using sound management and operational practices to safeguard the environment. The facility has been given a Clean Marina flag to fly to let boaters know that it runs a clean operation.

Clean Marina is a nationwide program developed by the National Marine Environmental Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to clean up waterways for better recreational boating. The foundation encourages states to adapt Clean Marina principles to fit their own needs.

The NC Clean Marina program is a partnership between SBTDC-Marine Trades Services, the NC Marine Trade Association, the Division of Coastal Management, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, NC Big Sweep and NC Sea Grant.
